Welcome!

This site is host to the Avery Ashdown Qualifying Examination for the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society (NESACS). The Ashdown Examination is the NESACS qualifying examination for high school students who are working toward the United States National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO).

Students seeking more information about the United States National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) should proceed directly to that website.

Students seeking registration information for the Ashdown Qualifying Examination should first verify that their school of record is registered, and that a teacher at their school is registered. Participants can only be registered by a registered teacher at a registered school. (Homeschools must be registered, too.)

Students seeking study materials — past Ashdown examinations — would be best served by accessing the past Local Section Examinations directly from USNCO. As the examinations changed somewhat a few years back, exams starting in 2015 will be most similar to future exams.

Important Registration News for 2024:

The deadline to register for the 2024 Ashdown has passed. Ashdown participants must also be registered using the new USNCO Registration Form in order to be nominated to the USNCO.

Only participants registered for the Ashdown need to be registered with the USNCO. No students attending school in the geographical region defined as the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society (NESACS) will be able to sit for the USNCO unless they are nominated by NESACS based on the results of the Ashdown Examination.
